I think that Caravan Palace has a bit to work on in terms of their vocals and development of ideas, but conceptually the album has a lot of potential, and it really succeeds at coming together as a whole. I couldn't recommend this enough!!! Indeed, the transition is needed, as the final track ‘April’, is considerably different from ‘Supersonics’. Could do better for the final executions at times. I first heard of Caravan Palace playing a game called Beat Saber - someone had created a level based on a caravan palace and the level was rated highly so I downloaded it, not knowing a thing about the artist. You can tell it’s a finale song from the very beginning, with the bursting chords that start the piece. There’s a very interesting contrast here between the cheery, upbeat music, and the slow, wistful, solo voice.
Will definitely be hitting the skip button for that one. It’s filled with a ton of well-produced tracks that you can’t help but bop your head to. With a clever mix of genres, ranging from electro to rhythm'n'blues to pop, bossa nova, soul, swing or old-school jazz, Chronologic is the perfect illustration of what Caravan Palace knows how to do better. While there might be a more universal appeal to this album, their genre-defying sound still makes for a mostly immersive listen and a neat addition to any summer playlist. A lot more downtempo, this is probably the most ‘vintage’ sounding track for the most part. Every song is unique and catchy. In my opinion April has the best vocals and serves as a pretty melodious and sweet finale to the project. Other tracks like About You don’t seem to pull their weight as much and feel a bit flat compared to the bombastic chorus of Leena or the bittersweet nature of Melancolia. Miracle and Supersonics demonstrate this problem, and while the tracks are great conceptually, they get tired pretty quickly, especially when there’s less development of the idea.
