For example, 1) how does Mona know that the left arm will be fingerprinted, what's to say the coroner wouldn't print the right arm; 2) in any case, burnt bodies are identified by dental records, not fingerprints; 3) the medical examiner/police/firefighters would surely question why the arm of the burnt victim has been (cleanly) sawn off; which would lead to a more in-depth investigation.As such, whilst in the context of the story, what happens to Mona's arm is fairly straightforward - she cuts it off to fool the police and the mob into thinking she's dead - the many illogicalities in this explanation cast a great deal of doubt on it's validity.As an aside, it is also worth noting that some fans argue a scene involving Mona actually cutting off her own arm with a power saw was included in the film during its initial theatrical release, but was subsequently cut for all ancillary showings (TV, VHS, DVD etc). 20 years later, you wish they were lookin' at you again, but, hey... that's life.
